Back To School With Marist College

[<2 MINUTE READ]

It’s back to school time!

This means long days for the three-person procurement team at Supplier Connection buyer Marist College.

The procurement team has to ensure that the college and its facilities are ready for the approximately 6,300 students ready to descend on it.

Founded in 1929, Marist College is a private and comprehensive liberal arts institution noted for its leadership in the use of technology in and out of the classroom.

As a member of Supplier Connection, Marist also is a leader in the use of technology in supply chain management.

Marist’s supply chain needs go far beyond the traditional staples of back-to-school shopping.

As an educational institution, Marist seeks suppliers across a range of industries and service areas, including: construction, consulting, research, advertising, information technology, tools and equipment, and service repairs.

According to Stephen Kochis, purchasing director at Marist, the ability to sort suppliers by industry category is one of the most useful features of Supplier Connection.

Kochis says Marist regularly uses about 2,000 suppliers, including several small and diverse firms that are part of the Supplier Connection network, to meet its supply chain needs.

Kochis says Marist initially joined Supplier Connection because of its longstanding relationship with IBM, its neighbor in the Hudson Valley — and he is very pleased with the decision.

Marist’s ultimate goal with Supplier Connection, according to Kochis, is to “increase the percentage of small and diverse businesses in its supplier database.”

Kochis says Marist’s participation in the inaugural Supplier Connection Growth Summit was an excellent opportunity to help expand its supplier network.

“During the Growth Summit matchmaking, I was able to meet one-on-one with eight companies that might be able to provide services/products to Marist in the future. I have shared their information with departments on campus to see if opportunities exist to expand our current supplier base.”
